Sobriety taught me something most people never hear.
Fear was never my punishment.
It was my teacher.
Fear humbled me.
Fear pushed me toward God.
Fear made surrender possible.
Without fear, I don’t learn faith.
I stuttered for most of my life.
That meant fear wasn’t theoretical for me.
It showed up in every conversation, every introduction, every moment of being seen.
And then there was Meat Loaf.

Before walking on stage, he used to admit he was terrified.
He didn’t hide it.
He didn’t pretend it wasn’t there.
He went on anyway.
That mattered to a kid who struggled to get words out.
Here was a man who didn’t wait for fear to disappear before showing up.
He accepted it, named it, and walked straight through it.
That taught me something long before I had the language for it.
Most people think they need the right words before asking for help.
They don’t.
A question is enough.
Concern is enough.
Curiosity is enough.
Fear tells us to wait until things get worse.
Faith says you can ask now.
That first contact
that quiet reach
that simple question
is already a step out of fear.
And I will help you.
Just ask.
